Brews, Buds, and Boos in Salem

A few months ago, my friend Amy and I were musing about a weekend getaway. She suggested Salem, Massachusetts, her favorite town. Never having been there myself, I was all for it, and thankfully we have kiddos that are best friends, and husbands willing to just show up and drive where we tell them to!

We had a terrific weekend - history and nature, good food and great friends, and lots and lots of interesting sights and stories.

Salem

A beautiful little place with a dark past. We visited the witch and pirate museums. I found it all very interesting; especially the effects of group-think and greed that drove the Salem witch hunts. And of course the weekend before Halloween proved to be an especially festive people watching scene.

We next spent the day making the short trip to Maine and New Hampshire (I have now been to every state on the East Coast!).

Maine

An unexpected highlight. The boys loved exploring the fort; stunning scenery.

Maine's version of Natty Boh?

Amy was thrilled to be here!

Bob strikes again!

New Hampshire

More rocky and rugged coast line in New Hampshire, followed by a stop in Portsmouth for lunch and a little shopping.

Local brew and blueberry soda - yum!

All too soon ... the long drive home. Happy Halloween everyone!
