Chicken Soup for a Mama's Soul

I read in Owen's National Geographic Explorer magazine (a recent, unexpected and very nice gift from Aunt Pam and Uncle Gene!) about a fun play activity involving a bowl of water and some Play-Doh. Sounded right up Owen's alley.

So I set us up and started in - only to very quickly discover that Play-Doh gets really disgustingly slimy in water, and seeps color (in this case florescent orange) all over one's hands, the water, the play mat, Owen's clothes, etc. Yuck.

New play activity ... a bowl of water, rubber chicken, some popping corn, and a slotted spoon. Result - Owen had fun making "chicken soup" and Mama enjoyed less mess!

Yes, a much better use for that squeaky chicken! I thought it was mean to "disappear" one day????? Glad to see a new post! Thinking of you! Erin

Ewww wet play dough. *shudder* That stuff is a serious mess not dripping wet. I can only imagine the mess you had to deal with. Squeaky chicken soup is a much better althernative!

You need to look in next month's National Geographic Jodi to see how many other parents, in an effort to have a fun activity, ended up with a very messy play dough soup. I would also add your much more creative concoction...the rubber chicken has taken on a whole new meaning. What an adventure...thanks for sharing it. Pam
