Flowers for Japan Update
A magnitude 6.6 tremor shook buildings in Tokyo and a wide swathe of eastern Japan on Monday evening, killing one man, knocking out power to 220,000 households and causing a brief halt to water pumping to cool three damaged nuclear reactors. This, a month after the 9.0 magnitude earthquake and huge tsunami battered its northeast coast, leaving nearly 28,000 dead or missing.
The devastation in Japan continues to break my heart. Life will not return to "normal" there for a very long time, and the Japanese people will continue to need assistance to rebuild their lives, their homes, their country.
We've raised $610 thus far for relief efforts. I'll be offering the Flowers for Japan pin until June, and sending the pooled donations at that time. If you'd like to purchase a pin - or just make a donation as my friend Deanna did - please contact me through a comment on the blog, on facebook, or email me at jkmechem @ yahoo.com.
Thank you to all who've donated!
